Innovative project of ENEA operator will reduce electricity losses in transformers
ENEA Operator has signed an agreement with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management to co-finance a project aimed at reducing losses in medium to low voltage transformers. As part of the project, a special calculation algorithm will be developed to facilitate the selection process of transformers. The scientific partner of the project is the Poznan University of Technology.
The main objective of the project is to develop a calculation algorithm that will support and optimise the process of selecting transformers for load conditions in medium to low voltage transformer stations, on the basis of previously obtained measurements. Following the load analysis, a recommendation will be made regarding the selection of a transformer. Such a recommendation will make it possible to select transformers matching the volume of distributed energy in a specific network location.
In addition to selecting the best and most efficient transformers at specific locations, the project will also contribute to the fight against the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere. – An important aspect of the company’s development on the energy market is not only improving its services, but also optimising costs. This is possible, among other things, owing to the development and implementation of innovative solutions for transformer stations on which electricity transmission and distribution is based. Implementing the project will also help to reduce the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere, says Professor Wojciech Drożdż, Vice-President for Innovation and Logistics, ENEA Operator.
The biggest energy losses occur in the low voltage network which consists of the above-mentioned transformers and the low voltage overhead and cable lines, including connections. Implementing the project will help to reduce these losses and the network failure rate. It will also have a positive impact on the protection and improvement of the environment, by reducing the level of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, among others.
While implementing such innovative projects in the field of R&D (Research and Development), cooperation with a scientific partner is extremely important. Therefore, in July ENEA Operator, following the conducted procedure, signed an agreement with the Poznan University of Technology which will act as a subcontractor in the project. The Poznan University of Technology will provide suitable resources necessary for the proper implementation of the project – knowledge, laboratories, and appropriate equipment for research.
