Enea submits an offer for Połaniec Power Plant

On 30 September 2016 Enea submitted an offer for the purchase of 100 per cent of shares in ENGIE Energia Polska, the owner of Połaniec Power Plant. The intention to take over these assets will strengthen the Group’s position on the market of electricity producers. It is also in line with the newly adopted Enea Capital Group’s Development Strategy until 2030.

The offer was submitted compliant with the process initiated by ENGIE, the owner of ENGIE Energia Polska, which is considering the sale of 100 per cent of the shares of the company.

- We are an optimum investor for ENGIE. Our greatest generating assets, Kozienice Power Plant, is a plant of similar technical parameters and a significant meaning for the safety of the power system in Poland. LW Bogdanka, which has been a part of Enea Group for a year, is also a supplier of coal to Połaniec Power Plant. It gives us much numerous possibilities of obtaining synergies and further improvement of the efficiency of energy generation based on our own raw material. One of our key strategic goals includes the growth in the electricity sales which we will want to realise based on our own energy sources – said Enea’s president, Mirosław Kowalik.

ENGIE Energia Polska is currently the fifth largest producer of electricity in Poland. Together with ca. 1.9 GW Połaniec Power Plant the company accounts for 5 per cent of electricity generation in Poland.

- The adopted strategy foresees further development and strengthening of Enea’s position on the market via e.g. increasing our conventional generation capacity. It will enable us to secure the anticipated growth in electricity sales volumes to end Customers. It is one of the foundations for the further building of the Group’s balanced potential in the areas of generation and mining. The proposal of joining the Group by Połaniec Power Plant is thus an element of strengthening of the company’s position, as one of the leading producers of electricity in Poland and as a reliable supplier of energy for our Customers – added Enea’s president, Mirosław Kowalik.

Enea Group is one of the leaders of the Polish power market. It manages the complete chain of values: from coal in the mine to a socket at Customer’s home. It is responsible for reliable supplies of energy to 2.5 mln Customers.
