Signing of a Letter of Intent regarding the creation of the Electromobility Centre

During the presentation called “On the way to electromobility” prepared by the Ministry of Energy, on 7 June 2016 the National Centre for Nuclear Research, Warsaw University of Technology, Enea S.A., ENERGA S.A., PGE S.A. And TAURON Polska Energia S.A. signed a letter of intent relating to the joint actions towards the development, promotion and dissemination of electromobility in Poland and development of the industry connected with this area.

The cooperation with signatories is to enable concentration of the research potential within the area of electromobility around the joint undertaking and become a seedbed for building an ecosystem for the sector development.

Deputy Minister of energy, Michał Kurtka, underlines that such initiatives constitute a significant element of this area development in Poland. – Cooperation of companies engaged in the development of the energy sector with the scientific and academic community will contribute to the development of foundations under a stable growth in electromobility – he adds.

Prof. Krzysztof Kurek, the director of the National Centre for Nuclear Research says that as one of the best research institutes in Poland it joins the activities aiming at the improvement of citizens’ life - The project supporting the electromobility becomes perfectly part of these activities – he assesses. He also emphasises that the current good cooperation with the largest Polish companies, such as PGE, PSE or KGHM contributed to the development of solutions affecting the improvement in competitiveness of these companies. - I believe that out joint activities within the Electromobility Centre will contribute to the development of innovative solutions – he underlines.

On the other hand, Prof. dr hab. inż. Jan Szmidt, the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology underlines the interaction of science and industry - Tradehe document which we have signed today confirms the core meaning of the integration of the intellectual potential of one of the leading technical universities in Poland with the needs of the power sector in order to deliver innovative solutions to the Polish economy - he adds.

In the opinion of Dariusz Kraśków, the president of Energa, the company’s commitment in the establishment of the Electromobility Centre is an element of an active participation of the company in the process of creating innovative solutions for the Polish economy. - We wish to share our knowledge and experience which we have gained during recent years leading our own research projects – he says. - Based on our existing experience, Energa Group perceives the electromobility market dynamically developing in the world as a new direction of development research which is to, in the perspective of the coming 15 -20 years, guarantee a significant growth in demand for electricity and development of new business services related to the construction and exploitation of a necessary power infrastructure – he assesses.

Remigiusz Nowakowski, the president of the board of TAURON Polska Energia emphasises that the agreement allows for joining the knowledge and experience within a widely understood area of electromobility in Poland which is held by the undertaking’s scientific partners, with the potential and development needs of industrial partners. - It is also the direction in which Polish companies, including TAURON, have conducted, for some time now, research directed at the dynamic development of a new market segment which in the future could become a significant business for them – he adds.

In the opinion of Mirosław Kowalik, the president of Enea, joining the powers of the power sector and scientific community is a chance of creating new, innovative services and products satisfying customers’ growing expectations, assuming building a durable energy security. - Customers will play an important role in shaping their energetic possibilities and needs and this undertaking is just facing their expectationshe notices.

 - PGE, the leader of the power sector in Poland, emphasises a permanent development via searching for and applying innovative solutions in all the areas of its operations – notices Henryk Baranowski, president of the board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. He underlines that a multidimensional cooperation with other companies from the sector and the best Polish research centres, allows us to effectively impact the development of the energy market, and thus improve the comfort of life in Polish households and guarantee energy security to Polish enterprises.

Engaged entities declare that until July 2016 they will specify the legal form, budget and schedule of commencing the undertaking for the realisation of the declared goals.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) is one of the largest research centres in Poland, employing over a thousand of employees. It e.g. deals with supporting the construction of the Polish nuclear power, fundamental research in the area of subatomic physics (physics of elementary particles and nuclear physics, hot plasma physics, etc.) and application of the methods of atomic physics and production of equipment for various branches of science and economy, including medicine. NCBJ possesses the only in Poland research reactor, MARIA, used for the production of radioactive isotopes, radioactive material modification and tests on neutron beams. The centre participates in international research undertakings and works over new atomic technologies. The equipment developed in NCBJ will be implemented in the Technological and Scientific Park in Świerk.

Enea, Energa, Tauron and PGE are the leading entities of the power sector in Poland conducting, within their own energy groups, operations within generation, distribution and sales of electricity, and also scientific research and development works.

The Warsaw University of Technology is a leading in Poland technical university holding a very high research potential in the area of technical sciences, i.e. highly specialised staff, research and laboratory base and the highest competence within electromobility.
