A celebration of a successful pressure test of a boiler in Enea’s power plant

Nailing the rating plate officially confirmed the successful pressure test of the boiler in the new unit being constructed in Kozienice Power Plant. Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe GmbH (MHPSE) and its Polish consortium member, Polimex-Mostostal, constructing the new unit, celebrated the successful test together with the investor and owner of Kozienice Power Plant - Enea. The guests made a toast with the “boiler water” instead of champagne.

A highly efficient power unit being constructed in Kozienice Power Plant (Enea Wytwarzanie) will have a capacity of 1,075 MW, with the efficiency of ca. 45.59%. Enea Group invested over PLN 5.1 billion (around EUR 1.21 billion) in the construction.

- The new unit in Kozienice Power Plant will become an important pillar of the Polish energy security. At the same time, it will be one of the most efficient objects of this type in the world - said Mirosław Kowalik, President of Enea.  - The investment demonstrates that there is space for modern, high-performance and low-emission conventional power plants, using the latest technologies which generate energy based on coal fuel, in an environmentally friendly way - he added.

The cornerstone under the construction of the new unit was laid on 21 November 2012. Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe Group supplied the boiler and other necessary elements of the unit. The turbine, generator and their components, and also flue gas treatment equipment, come from a Japanese parent - Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd. The Polimex-Mostostal consortium member is responsible for the construction part, and for the majority of finishing works.

- Commencement of the construction of the new unit in Kozienice Power Plant was the first step of MHPSE in the Polish power sector - said Rainer Kiechl, President of the Board of MHPSE. - Since that time we have accepted another order for the construction of the power plant in Turów and have taken part in various tenders. Poland is an explicitly core market for our company and a problem-free cooperation with Enea Wytwarzanie is an important benchmark for us - he added.

Yasuo Fujitani, Director and Vice-President of the Japanese parent, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd., is of the same opinion: - MHPS not only designs and builds power plants, gaseous and coal-fired, but also supplies such technologies as the most modern flue gas treatment technologies. These components will become more and more important in Poland and the other countries of eastern and central Europe.

The design of the new unit is also a crucial factor for the economy and companies engaged in its construction. - A ssignificant part of the investment’s values will remain in the region or by sub-contractors and other engaged companies - emphasises Antoni Józefowicz, President of Polimex-Mostostal S.A.

During the pressure test the whole boiler, together with heating areas and around a hundred meters of pipelines, was filled with water and tested in respect of airtightness at the pressure of 513 bars. Over 93 thousand welds had to sustain this extreme pressure. The confirmation of passing the test was supplied to the Office of Technical Supervision (UDT).

Currently, there are almost 2.5 thousand workers, engineers and other specialists on the construction site.
