More modernly in the heart of Enea’s power plant

In Kozienice Power Plant, held by Enea, a modern control room of the Traffic Engineers on Duty was opened. The room is the heart of the power plant, from which the power production may be managed. New posts are equipped with the most modern appliances, which enhances the safety and facilitates the work.

Traffic Engineers’ on Duty (TED) rooms are the real heart of the power plant. TEDs monitor and supervise all the technological processes, in all the units generating energy in Kozienice Power Plant.

- Kozienice Power Plant must guarantee the national energy security. Therefore, we cooperate on a daily basis with the National and Regional Power Dispatching Centre and with government institutions, e.g. with the Government Centre for Security - says  Michał Jaciubek, one of the traffic engineers in Enea Wytwarzanie, about his work.

Traffic Engineers on Duty for the whole day take care for the safe operation of the immense and complicated mechanism, seven days a week, thanks to which power may flow in our sockets. Two TEDs always work on one shift, and their competences include supervision over all the employees of the power plant.

- We also have a constant connection with the emergency and other services. It is very important in the case of a crisis situation, when we coordinate the rescue - Jaciubek adds.

Due to the installation of modern and efficient equipment in the new control room along with the  relevant software, the Traffic Engineers on Duty obtained a quick and more detailed view of the operation of all the systems installed in the power plant. Currently, the room is equipped with 27 monitors, including a 6x1.8m video wall. The number of screens will increase - each new installation for the environmental protection requires surveillance.

- There are more and more areas which we are controlling every day. The construction of a new unit, and subsequent flue gas desulphurisation plants as well, made us change our location and standards of our work. The previous rooms were located between the engine room and boiler house and had no windows - said inż. Andrzej Wojciechowski, one of the traffic engineers in Enea Wytwarzanie about his work.

The previous control room was designed several dozen years ago, when the power plant was installed. The engineers working in the new location say that they cannot get used to the fact that they do not longer feel any generator vibrations. – And one says that a man gets used to better things easily – jokes Marek Pereta, automation and power engineering director at Enea Wytwarzanie.

The operation of starting new posts was performed on a “living body”, i.e. during the operation of the power plant and concurrently with the works of the old control centre. Due to the commitment and professionalism of Kozienice Power Plant’s employees, all works were uninterrupted.

The Traffic Engineers on Duty have also a splendidly equipped conference hall for their disposition in the station. Meetings take place three times per day in it at which decisions core for the power plant’s operation are made.

The old rooms of the TED control room will be currently used for the power plant’s exploitation needs, and will constitute a TED emergency control station if needed.
