Prime Minister in Kozienice: energy supplies to households are safe

Ewa Kopacz, the Prime Minister, visited Enea's power plant in Kozienice yesterday. The head of the government was mainly interested in the impact of high temperatures lasting for many days on the operation of power plants and reliability of energy supplies. - The system is safe - ensured Andrzej Czerwiński, the Minister of Treasury, who accompanied Ewa Kopacz.

After a talk to presidents of Enea Ewa Kopacz visited the control station of units No. 9 and 10, in which the energy production process is being continuously monitored.

- Energy security and stable, regular supplies of energy to consumers is a priority for me - explained Mrs. Kopacz. - Daily limitations related to heats will be applied only to large companies for which such situations are foreseen in agreements. We want them to occur as rarely as possible. They will not affect individual recipients or life rescuing institutions - guaranteed Ewa Kopacz.

- We are in an emergency situation due to persistent high temperatures. Yet, the energy system is prepared, safe and there is no threat to supplies for individual recipients. It is, among others, the effect of investments implemented in the energy sector for several years, whose total value reaches over PLN 100 billion - added Andrzej Czerwiński, the Minister of Treasury.

The Minister of Treasury pointed out that a high consumption of energy means an additional demand for coal from Polish mines. As he added, the establishment of energy and coal holdings in Poland is economically justified.

- The Polish energy sector will be still based on coal for several dozen years. Connecting the mining sector with energy engineering is relevant, and the consequence of such an activity may be positive for the both parties - the minister added.

As he emphasised, the government is being developing the energy strategy until 2050. It includes environmental requirements which must be satisfied due to our membership in the European Union.

Also the head of the government admitted that the present situation demonstrates the importance of conventional sources of energy based on coal fuel. - No wind on such days as we are having proves that we cannot rely on one technology and renewable energy sources is a crucial issue to us. Since we have large resources of coal we should use them - explains the Prime Minister.

She emphasised that the investment being implemented in Enea in the modern unit No. 11, based on the advanced Japan technology enables e.g. reduction of CO2 emissions by ca. 25%. - This modern unit will generate more power than several older units. The capacity of the power plant will grow by as much as 30% - said the Prime Minister during the meeting with journalists. - I asked about the progress of this investment and I know that it is being implemented on the schedule. It testifies of the good supervision from Enea's authorities over the investments. When I was here last time, I said that I would come again when something new happened. And it turned out today that the crucial element of the investment, generator, which had to come here form Japan, arrived in recent days. It is a breakthrough moment in the implementation of the whole investment. A moment ago I was in the engine room in which the temperature reaches as mush as 48 degrees, and despite that fact those exceptional people work there with full commitment. I want to thank them for that - summed up the Prime Minister.

Ewa Kopacz, the Prime Minister, was accompanied by the Minister of Treasury, Andrzej Czerwiński and Cezary Tomczyk, minister and the government spokesman. The guests were hosted by Krzysztof Zamasz, the president of Enea Group and president of Enea Wytwarzanie, Krzysztof Sadowski.
