International specialists coming soon to Poznań

Experts from Italy, Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Lithuania and the United States are coming to Poznań in just one month to discuss the future of the energy sector together. The organisers are expecting as many as 43 specialists – both from Poland and abroad. Get to know our guests of the Energi@21 Congress.

Direction: France

Iana Dreyer is an economist and journalist specialising in the commercial and energy policy. She writes about the European energy security. ‘The issue of energy security has significantly gone up the EU’s agenda over the last decade. The main goal of the European Union is to reduce the dependence of individual Member States on single sources of supply,’ Dreyer said, who is also the founder of the borderlex.eu service publishing analyses and information on the EU’s commercial policy.

Ute Dubois is a professor of economics at the ISG International Business School in Paris. Currently, she is focusing on research into social issues related to energy consumption. She pays particular attention to the phenomenon of fuel poverty, the affordability of energy in Europe as well as the access to energy in Africa.

Yannick Perez holds a PhD in economics from the Paris-Sorbonne University. Since 2008, he has been the chief economic advisor on the European energy policy at the Loyola de Palacio Chair. In 2012, he joined the Armand Peugeot Chair as Senior Research Fellow, which conducts research on the development of vehicles running on electricity.

Specialists from the Italian Peninsula

Italy will be represented in Poznań by Giovanni De Santi and Giacomo Calzolari.

De Santi is the Director of the Institute for Energy and Transport of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where he has worked since 1985. He investigates the management of projects and expert groups in the field of energy, transport, mechanical and nuclear engineering, environmental sciences and management. In 2007, he was appointed the Director of the JRC’s Institute for Energy and Transport, which operates in Petten (the Netherlands) and Ispra (Italy).

Giacomo Calzolari is a professor of economics at the University of Bologna. He manages the International BA of Economics and Finance programme, which is a part of the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London. He also received the Young Economist Award from the European Economic Association.

Americans in Poznań

The United States will be represented by Peter Fox-Penner and Mark Jamison.

Peter Fox-Penner is an executive advisor and internationally recognised authority on the energy and electrical grid issues. He is the Director of the Brattle Group, which is a leading consulting company specialising in economic consulting. He focuses on policies concerning the electricity market and its regulation.

Mark Jamison is a professor at the University of Florida and Director of its Public Utility Research Center (PURC). He conducts international research on the mutual influence of business and politics. Besides, he manages the PURC/World Bank International Training Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy.

Strong representation of the Benelux countries

The Benelux countries will be represented at the Energi@21 Congress by Jean-Arnold Vinois and Pierre Regibeau from Belgium and John Sinner from the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg.

During 15 years of work for the European Commission, Vinois held management positions in the areas of transport and trans-European connections. As the Director of the Directorate General for Energy, he was responsible for the internal market for electricity and gas. In 2014, he became Advisor on European Energy Policy at Notre Europe – Jacques Delors Institute.

Pierre Regibeau is the Vice President of Charles River Associates. He specialises in industrial organisation, law, economics and international business. He has worked on numerous cases involving mergers and anti-trust proceedings for the European Commission and authorities controlling competition issues on the markets of individual countries.

John Sinner, employed at the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) Energy Department, works on the economic appraisal of energy infrastructure investments, prepares general analyses and carries out research of the energy market, supporting the current activity and policy of the Bank.

Scandinavian experts

Experts from Sweden, Norway and Iceland are also coming to the Energi@21 Congress.

Orjan Brinkman represents Sweden. He is Member of the Board of Agriculture's consumer advisory group and the Chemicals Agency's Advisory Council. He belongs to the Thematic Group on Equality of the European Social Fund (ESF). Since 2012, he has been holding the position of President in UNICUM – Design for All and Väddö Södertörn – College Foundation.

Atle Midttun, a professor at the Department of Innovation and Economic Organisation at the Norwegian Business School, is coming to Poznań from Norway. He manages some of the research centres led by NBS, namely the Centre for Energy and Environment and the Centre for Corporate Responsibility.

Fridrik Larsen from Iceland is the President of Larsen Energy Branding, which advises electricity retailers on the branding of their products and companies. ‘The main challenge for the managers of energy companies is to manage them efficiently under new, demanding circumstances. In order to achieve this, they must remember about the basic principles of marketing,’ Larsen underlines.

Direction: neighbouring countries

Lithuania will have its representative at the Energi@21 Congress too. Dalius Misiūnas is Chairman of the Board and CEO of the energy group Lietuvos Energija, one of the largest energy companies in the Baltic States. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors at Eurelectric and President of National Lithuanian Electricity Association.

Karsten Neuhoff, Head of the Department of Climate Policy at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), is coming to Poznań from Berlin. He is a professor at the Technical University of Berlin, where he researches on energy and climate policies. Previously, he worked at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge, leading projects on the future of the UK’s power system.

The International Scientific and Industrial Congress of Energi@21 "Innovative energy company" will be held in Poznań on 26-27 May 2015 as the event accompanying the "Expopower" International Energy Fair. It is an event with a limited number of spaces.
