The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection approved the merger of Elektrociepłownia Białystok with MPEC Białystok
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection issued an approval for ENEA Wytwarzanie to take up 85 per cent shares in Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej in Białystok. The decision means that the agreement concluded on 26 May 2014 with Białystok city will be finalised in mid September. This way the company which owns the key producer of heat for the city, Elektrociepłownia Białystok, will be also its supplier for the citizens.
The merger of EC Białystok with MPEC district network will enable optimisation of heat production in the city. The heat and power plant possesses two modern units fired with biomass, with zero emission of CO2. Their more efficient use will improve the condition of the natural environment in the city.
- Reliable supplies of heat and funds in the budget for district investments are the most important benefits of the agreement with the experienced entity, whose main owner is the State Treasury - notices Tadeusz Truskolaski, President of Białystok.
The amalgamation of heat generation with the district network is a commonly applied solution. It is perfect both for large cities, such as Poznań or Łódź, and in smaller places, as Augustów and Czarna Białostocka. From the middle of September such an efficient amalgamation will function also in Białystok.
- It will bring indicative benefits mainly to Białystok citizens. Two companies acting jointly will reach much more than separately. We will improve the quality of our services, and Białystok citizens will breathe cleaner air. Additionally, we will modernise the heating network, which will enhance the comfort and reliability of heat supplies - emphasises Krzysztof Sadowki, President of ENEA Wytwarzanie.
ENEA Wytwarzanie is part of ENEA Group, one of the largest energy companies in Poland.
