Białystok Heat and Power Plant merges with MPEC Białystok
Pursuant to the agreement concluded today, ENEA Wytwarzanie will take up 85 percent shares in Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej in Białystok. The company which owns the key producer of heat for the city, Białystok Heat and Power Plant, will thus take over the responsibility for its delivery to the citizens. Purchase of shares of MPEC Sp. z o.o. in Białystok by ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. will allow for the heat production optimisation. It will consist in its more advantageous division among less efficient sources of Ciepłownia Zachód and modern, ecological and biomass-fired cogeneration units (producing heat and energy in one process) in Białystok Heat and Power Plant. Electricity generation and generation efficiency of two types of energy will improve, and at the same time the emission of harmful substances to the natural environment will be considerably reduced. ENEA also announces numerous modernisations of the heating network, which will improve the comfort and reliability of heat supplies to Białystok households and offices.
- The liability for the urban heating network will be taken by ENEA Group - an experienced and professional entity whose key owner is the State Treasury. Reliable supplies of heat and funds in the city's budget for new investments in the improvement of the quality of life of Białystok citizens - are the most important benefits resulting from the agreement for our city - says Tadeusz Truskolaski, President of Białystok.
Integration of the generation with the heating network is a very efficient solution, which is commonly used. It works perfectly both in large cities, such as Poznań or Łódź, as well as in smaller places, e.g. Augustów and Czarna Białostocka. Białystok is the only city in Podlasie region in which the generator and distributor of heat operate separately. According to law, the transaction must be additionally approved by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
- Joining the powers with the heating network means a considerable increase in the value of the very Heat and Power Plant as well. We estimate that we will produce from 20 to 25 percent more energy and heat there, we will also achieve red certificates more by ca. one fourth. At the same time, we will reduce costs and will be able to use the knowledge, expenses and skills of employees more efficiently. In our opinion it is very important, since it is concrete and calculable, additional benefits. – emphasises Krzysztof Sadowski, President of ENEA Wytwarzanie.
