Tragic accident in the power plant in Kozienice
Today, around 1.00 p.m., during works on the dismantling (lowering) of the chimney No. 3 in the power plant in Kozienice, a tragic accident occurred. There were four casualties - outsourced employees who performed works inside the inactive chimney. They fell, with the work platform, from the height of ca. 200 metres.
The modernisation works in progress consisted in the demolition of a part of the presently inactive 300 meter chimney and its adaptation to the modern flue gas desulphurisation plant under development. The platform fell from a great height. Relevant services came to the accident site and commenced the rescue.
- "This is a very sad day for the whole energy sector in Poland. I express the sincerest condolences and deepest sympathy to the families of the victims. We hereby declare our full support, both psychological and just humane" – said Krzysztof Zamasz, President of the Board of ENEA S.A., which is the owner of the power plant.
Modernisation works were suspended, and the whole power plant operates with no interruptions. The event circumstances, at the site, are being investigated by relevant services, under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
