First construction works launched in Kozienice

The first construction works were commenced on the construction site of the new power unit with the capacity of 1,075 MW in ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. On 29 November the the ground was symbolically broken on the construction site of the new power unit in the Kozienice power plant. It took place within a month after the possession by the general contractor of the area under the investment.

The construction of the new power unit is the largest investment within the Polish power industry, as a result of which the largest bituminous coal fired unit of this type in Europe will be developed. That will be the most modern unit operating on the steam supercritical parameters with the capacity of 1,075 MW (gross) and the efficiency of 45.6 per cent (net). The construction contract is being realised by a consortium of: Hitachi Power Europe GmbH and Polimex – Mostostal S.A. The completion of the construction is planned already in Q2 2017.

The today's event was very symbolic - said Krzysztof Zborowski, President of the Board of ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A.  It was a crowning of many months of work of our specialists and engineers. The first breaking of the ground symbolically opened the road to intensive construction works commencing the construction of the power unit in Kozienice. We may say that we have started the run "for success" –  added Zborowski.

The representatives of the consortium building the new unit were also very satisfied with the commencement of works. For several years the Polimex-Mostostal consortium has been conducting operations as a result of which an organisation was established which is able to comprehensively realise the greatest investment tasks in the Polish power sector. We possess relevant competences and potential so to successfully realise the set goals, such as the construction of the power unit in Kozienice – said Robert Oppenheim acting President of the Board of Polimex-Mostostal.

We are also happy to share our over 100 years of experience with the Polish partners . We count that our knowledge will prove useful on the realisation of the project which is so important for the energy security of the country – added Matthias Jochem, Vice-President of Hitachi Power Europe GmbH, Executive Director for Poland.

The new power unit is an impulse for the development of the electricity market and means new work places. From 1,000 to 2,500 employees will work on the construction depending on the investment realisation stage. After the completion of the construction during the target operation around 300 employees will be employed.

A significant part of materials, services and equipment of the new unit will come from domestic suppliers and producers. It means new work places will be developed also for the Polish sub-contractors and sub-suppliers.
