Elektrownia "Kozienice" S.A. invited contractors to file offers for construction of a new unit

Elektrownia „Kozienice” S.A.  on 7 December 2011 invited contractors to file offers within the tender procedure for 'Construction of a supercritical parameters power unit fired with hard coal with a minimum net power of 900 MWe and maximum  power of 1,000 MWe' conducted in accordance with the Act on Public Offerings of 29 January 2004. The power plant anticipates selection of a winner on the turn of I and II quarter of 2012. The investment is to be realised during 2012-2016.

The technical and economic analyses conducted by the Kozienice Power Plant indicate that the concept of development based on the construction of a power unit with the power of up to 1,000 MW constitutes an optimal solution guaranteeing the replacement process of the installed generating capacities. 

- We would like to use the best of the presently available technologies so that the unit have the net efficiency of 44.5 per cent. The unit will be equipped with any latest ecological installations together with a possibility of development in the future of an installation for capturing of carbon dioxide from the flue gases (CCS) - says Krzysztof Zborowski, President of the Board of Elektrownia "Kozienice" S.A. and Vice-President of the Board of ENEA S.A.
The access to participation in the tender procedure was reported by 9 contractors. The Procurer qualified 7 out of 9 contractors to a subsequent stage of procedure.  Preliminary offers were submitted by 3 contractors.  Selection of a winner and commencement of realisation of works are planned for the turn of I and II quarter of 2012.

The investment will be financed among others from own equity and from funds obtained from emissions of bonds by ENEA S.A. group within which Elektrownia "Kozienice" S.A. is operating.
At the beginning of 2012 ENEA S.A.  plans to execute a relevant contact with a selected bank consortium.  Funds obtained from emissions of bonds will finance part of the investment within the plan adopted by ENEA S.A. till 2020.   Most of the funds obtained this way will be designated for the construction of a new power unit in the Kozienice Power Plant.

- All the works connected with preparations to the construction of the unit are performed on schedule.  Presently, beyond the process of selection of a winner, we are also preparing to ensure a comprehensive financing of the investment. We are analysing the scenarios of financing of this and other investment.  Own funds give us comfort of an unhurried consideration of various scenarios - says Krzysztof Zborowski, the President.

Construction and operation of a new 1,000 MW power unit will be of a huge social importance for the Kozienice region, since the investment means creation of new work places.

During the construction, depending on the stage of realisation of the project, from 1,000 to 2,000 employees will be employed.  However, ca. 250 employees will be engaged by operation of the generating unit.
