First synchronization of Enea’s new power block at Elektrownia Kozienice power plant is successful
The process of commissioning new power block no. 11 at the Kozienice Power Plant is entering the decisive stage. On September 1st, Enea Wytwarzanie has conducted the first synchronization of the 1075 MW power block with the National Power System. The synchronization went according to schedule.
Power block no. 11 is working according to the power output schedule. Future commissioning stages include adjustments and optimization of the block’s operations.
Synchronization of the 1075 MW power block with the National Power System consists of synchronous connection of the generating block with the power grid. Before the synchronization, it was necessary to activate all the technological systems - these works were conducted over the past several months.
– The first synchronization of the new, 1075 MW power block of the Kozienice Power Plant is a big success of all the people involved in this project. After a successful pressure test of the main boiler, this was the second important test of our new power generating unit - says Mirosław Kowalik, the president of the Management Board of Enea.
– We are one step from completing the most important investment project of the Enea Group and one of key projects in the history of the Polish power industry. The new power block at Kozienice Power plant will become an important pillar of the energy security system of our country, at the same time it will be one of the most efficient facilities of its kind worldwide - president Kowalik added.
– The first synchronization marks the culmination of hard work of several thousand people employed at this project. Successful synchronization confirms that the block is properly build - says Krzysztof Figat, the president of Enea Wytwarzanie. The block is the biggest investment since the construction of our power plant and gives us a chance to stay at this location for many years to come. At the same time, the block is the biggest power-generating unit of its kind worldwide. We are very proud that it was build in Kozienice - Figat added.
The new block no. 11 at the power plant in Kozienice is a key investment project for the Enea Group, as well as for the entire Polish power industry. The project features the use of the latest technological solutions as far as the boiler, the turbine and environmental protection systems. Thanks to high electricity generation efficiency of 45.6% and availability ratios is excess of 92%, it will be the biggest and the most efficient coal-fired energy generating unit in the history of the domestic power industry.
Block no. 11 will increase the output capacity of the Kozienice Power Plant in Świerże Górne to 4000 MW, pushing Enea Group’s share in the domestic production of electrical energy to 13%.
Conceptual works relating to the project begun in 2008 while the first construction works to prepare the site for actual construction started a year later. In 2012 the group has signed a contract with the project contractor, a consortium of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe and Polimex-Mostostal.
