The new line will increase the energy security of Szczecin agglomeration

Enea Operator connected the new two-track high voltage line. The investment allowed for a change in the power supply configuration of Szczecin agglomeration from Dolna Odra Power Plant. 110 kV line of Dolna Odra - Chlebowo relation considerably enhances the reliability of electricity supplies.

17 km of two-track line were constructed, within the investment with 240 mm2 working cable section, adjusted to the operation at 80°C. The new investment enabled changing the configuration of the lines feeding Szczecin agglomeration, increasing the number of 110 kV lines on the side of Dolna Odra from one (Dolna Odra - Gryfino - Dąbie) to three: Dolna Odra – Gryfino – Żydowce; Dolna Odra – Dąbie; Dolna Odra – Morzyczyn – Dąbie.

- Thanks to one, 17-kilometre section of high voltage line, we de facto gained three additional lines feeding Szczecin agglomeration. Therefore, I suppose I may boldly give such a statement, that today Szczecin is one of the most secure cities in Poland as regards power – emphasised Marek Szymankiewicz, vice-president of Enea Operator for the grid infrastructure.

The necessity to construct a high voltage line in this location was already pointed out in the concept of 110 kV network development in 1997. Three years later an agreement for design works was concluded which resulted in the initiation of changes in the Local Spacial Development Plan of Gryfino commune, taking into account the route of this line. Due to the difficulties with respect to obtaining the right-of-way, the design works were aborted.

After the power failure of 2008, the necessity of building this line was stated for the second time. This time, in a special Report of the Team for Investigating the Causes and Results of the Energy Disaster appointed by Zachodmiopomorskie province governor. The report’s recommendations confirmed the validity of the line construction.

The agreement with the contractor for the realisation of the task in the turnkey option was concluded in April 2009. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of formal and legal issues and problems with obtaining required building permits, the investment was completed this year.

The contractor of the agreement covering both the execution of the project and the construction works was ELTEL Networks Energetyka. Its value is PLN 14 billion.

- Since 2008 we have invested PLN 1.4 billion in the extension and modernisation of the network in Szczecin division. We are one of the largest investors in the region. What's more, we are the investor who will stay in this region, and will not change the location of the investment due to economic conditions - said Michał Jarczyński, president of Enea Operator.

The investment was realised in accordance with the spatial planning of Gryfino commune, taking into account the environmental protection requirements relating to e.g. electromagnetic field emission and noise levels in the vicinity of the residential land development and on the areas protected under Natura 2000. Realising our investment, the proportion between the social interest, being the reliability of supplies for Consumers, and the protection of the natural environment and interests of the property owners.
