Ecological installation launched in ENEA Wytwarzanie

The Swedish Ecology Ambassador appreciates ENEA's commitment in the environment protection. Jan Olsson, the Ambassador, came to Podlasie to attend the scientific and technical symposium devoted to the latest ecological investment of ENEA - the installation for recovery of heat from biomass boiler combustion gas in Białystok Heat and Power Plant.

The Swedish Ecology Ambassador emphasised the importance of the Polish and Swedish cooperation in the area of environment protection. – ENEA and Radscan Intervex's common project in Białystok is a great success. It proves that good technology and persistence is a successful match, and also a valuable lesson of making business together – said Jan Olsson. The Ambassador was accompanied by a delegation of the representatives of the Swedish government from the Department of Environment Protection.

Heat Recovery Installation is an innovative design. As underlined during the symposium by the President of the Board of ENEA Wytwarzanie, Krzysztof Sadowski, it is the first investment of that type in Poland on an industrial scale. – We have built it based on the experience of our Swedish partners. The technology allows to increase the heat production from the biomass boiler without consuming additional fuel. Due to the investment in the modern heat recovery system, ENEA Wytwarzanie considerably reduced the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, increasing concurrently the total capacity of the combined heat and power plant – emphasised President Sadowski.

Also Jacek Najder, member of the Parliament present on the seminar, praised he ecological investment during the symposium. He congratulated Białystok with a good climate, both the investment climate and the climate in the more literal meaning - with cleaner air.

Two biomass-fired boilers operate in the Białystok combined heat and power plant of ENEA Wytwarzanie. They both were created as a result of the existing coal boilers conversion. It allowed, to a large extent, reduce coal consumption and limit the carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, over 46% of heat energy is produced from biomass as wood chips. The innovative heat recovery installation allows for production of as mush as additional 385 thousand GJ of heat annually with no necessity to use additional fuel. Estimated reduction in carbon dioxide emissions amounts to around 10 thousand tonnes annually.

The total cost of the new installation is PLN 27.7 mln. PLN 17.9 mln preferential loan was obtained for the implementation of the investment from the funds of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management from "Efficient Use of Energy" programme. Mostostal Warszawa and Radscan Intervex consortium is the contractor of the investment. On 23 February 2015 the investment was finally accepted during a ceremony.
