The inspection of the Vistula River below the Kozienice power plant confirms removal of mazut remains
Employees of ENEA Wytwarzanie and representatives of the specialist third company removed the last small leftovers of mazut the tiny volume of which got into the Vistula River on 16 July 2014. Despite no traces of mazut on plants and in the soil, relevant services of the power plant regularly control the both banks of the river.
On 31 July the inspection was performed by employees of the Voivodeship Environmental Protection Inspectorate - Branch in Radom in the presence of representatives of the Board of the Polish Anglers Association District in Radom, Mazowieckie and Świętokrzyskie Ornithological Association, Regional Environmental Protection Board, ecological organisation of WWF, and with the participation of ENEA Wytwarzanie's employees. A 17 km section was inspectedof the Vistula River channel between the outlet of the cooling water discharge canal from the power plant and the location of Rękowice.
During the performed inspection it was stated that some remains of mazut, seen on plants during the previous site inspection on 22 July 2014 were removed by the services of ENEA Wytwarzanie. Currently, on the soil ad plants there are no signs of any mazut left. Small iridescent stains on the surface of water in the distance of ca. 800 m from the discharge and rare stains on tiny fragments of plants were immediately removed by employees of ENEA Wytwarzanie.
All the people present on the Vistula River stated that since the condition of the embankment and riverside is satisfactory, there is no need to perform any other mutual inspections.
Despite the positive result of the inspection, employees of the power plant constantly and regularly inspect the river banks. They are supported by representatives of a specialist third company, public institutions and ecologists. The monitoring activities performed during the recent days have not shown any alarming events.
A team of specialists is commencing the work in the power plant and they are preparing the scope of required actions, both technical and organisational, which will exclude the possibility of occurring of any similar event in the future. Developed solutions, before their adoption, will be agreed with relevant bodies.
