Construction of the most advanced power unit of the ENEA Group is accelerating

More than 940 reinforced concrete columns have been driven in the construction site to strengthen the ground. Soon, work is to be started for the construction of a cooling tower, a boiler and a Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) plant. On Friday, Minister of Treasury, Mr. Włodzimierz Karpiński visited the site to see the progress of work.

The main facilities of the new power unit of the Kozienice Power Plant, including a boiler room, an engine room, a building for electric equipment, an ash storage reservoir and an inclined coal conveyor, are to be built on the surface reinforced with columns.

"Construction works continue according to the time schedule agreed with the contractor", says Mr. Krzysztof Sadowski, CEO of ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. "I am proud to see that despite the difficulties in the whole industry, we are doing great with such an ambitious project", adds the CEO Sadowski.

Currently, 150 people work on the construction site of the new unit. As the work progresses, the number of jobs is going to increase rapidly. Construction of a cooling tower, boiler foundations with communication pylons and foundations of the FGD plant starts this year.  Installation of the boiler structure and the engine room is going to start in 2014. The next stages will focus on the delivery of: a water treatment plant, electrostatic precipitator and the coal feed site; the test run is planned for 2016. The energy from the new unit will ensure supplies to the national power system in four years' time, in 2017.

"The new unit in Kozienice is an important investment in the Polish power sector. It uses a highly efficient innovative technology and meets the strictest European environmental criteria", says Mr. Krzysztof Zamasz, CEO of ENEA S.A. "The project is important to the ENEA Group, the Kozienice region and the national energy security", stresses the CEO Zamasz.

The new power unit in Świerże Górne will have the capacity of 1,075 MW. For its parameters, it will ensure stability of the national power system. Upon completion of the construction work, ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. will have the largest, the most efficient and the most advanced coal fired generation unit in the country.
