ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. invested in a new flue gas desulphurisation plant
ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. concluded a contract with Babcock – Hitachi K.K. for the construction of a flue gas desulphurisation plant (IOS IV) diminishing the emissions of sulphur dioxide. The value of the concluded contract is PLN 148,000,000 net (182,040,000 gross). The date of the construction completion and commissioning of the installation planned by the contractor is June 2015. The operation of the installation will ensure a very high - over 93% efficiency of desulphurisation.
ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. and Babcock – Hitachi K.K. on 5 March concluded a contract for the Construction of the Flue Gas Desulphurisation Plant IOS IV for 200 MW units with the total capacity of ca. 800 MWe. This is already the fourth flue gas desulphurisation plant in which the power plant from Kozienice invested.
The investment design complies with the requirements of the Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and Council on industrial emissions, which enters into force on 1 January 2016. The construction of IOS IV will allow the power plant from Kozienice for the realisation of the required production plans observing the required emission standards without limiting the production of energy resulting from exceeding sulphur dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. IOS IV installation will reduce sulphur dioxide emissions considerably below the required 200 mg/Nm3s, and will also contribute to the balancing of emissions in the whole area of generation of the ENEA Capital Group.
"Because of the location of the power plant in Puszcza Kozienicka (Kozienice Forest) the ecological aspect of operations is fundamental for us. We pursue the production of the so called "pure energy" investing in the installations and technologies aiming at the maximum limitation of the power plant's interference with the environment. The goal of the construction of another flue gas desulphurisation plant is reaching even lower values of sulphur dioxide emissions. The installation's operation is based on wet lime and gypsum method which ensures a very high - over 93% efficiency of desulphurisation. An absorbing substance will be a water solution of limestone powder, and the final product in the process will be gypsum which may be later on used in construction materials.”- said Andrzej Schroeder, President of the Board of ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A.
The wet lime and gypsum technology is the most common method of flue gas desulphurisation in the energy engineering. The installation (IOS IV) is planned for a continuous operation for 8,000 h/year with the flue gas flow rate within the range of 900,000 Nms3/h to 3,200,000 Nms3/h for the assumed contents of SO2 in inlet flue gases within the limits of 1,450÷3,200 mg/Nm3s. The guaranteed emission on the outlet from the installation will not exceed the level of 200 mg/Nm3s. In the operating conditions the reached condensations will be much lower than the guaranteed value.
ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A. is the centre of generation of the ENEA Capital Group. The leader of the whole segment is the power plant in Kozienice - the largest national producer of electricity using bituminous coal for the generation. The power plant is located 75 km south of Warsaw. It employs over 2,300 employees. It is one of the most effective producers of power in Poland. It possesses 10 high-efficiency power units with the total generating capacity of 2,905 MWe. The power plant in Kozienice possesses over 8% share in the electricity generation market.
