Works commenced on the construction site of the new power unit in Kozienice

The supercritical bituminous coal fired power unit is a representative investment of ENEA. The laying of the foundation stone is being performed on the construction site.

Among the invited parties there were, among others, representatives of the Polish Government, local authorities and journalists. The Board of ENEA S.A. is also present at the ceremony along with the representatives of the ENEA Group Companies. This is an official opening of the new investment. The construction works commenced already three weeks ago.

During the upcoming five years from 1,000 to 2,500 employees will be engaged by the construction of the unit, depending on the stage of the investment. During the target operation around 300 employees will be employed. The investment in the construction of the power unit is one of the key undertakings in order to increase the generation capacity of the ENEA Group. This is the element of one of the long-term strategic directions of the Group. It is gaining an access to own sources of electricity generation. Its potential is to enable at least the satisfaction of the demand for energy of all the clients of the ENEA Group.

The new power unit in Kozienice will be the most modern unit fired with coal in Poland and Europe. A successful completion of the investment will allow for increasing generating capacities of the power plant in Kozienice by ca. 30 per cent. The technical solutions used will enable equipping the unit with an installation for capture and condensation of carbon dioxide. It may have a substantial meaning in the future, in relation to the policy of the European Union within the reduction of CO₂ emission. The net value of the agreement for the construction of the unit is PLN 5.1 bln. The construction will be completed in Q2 2017.
