Offers for new unit in Kozienice

Three contractors are vying for the opportunity to construct a new unit at the Kozienice Power Plant, which is part of the ENEA Capital Group. Three offers were submitted by the deadline set by the tender committee. The tender is to be decided in the last quarter of 2011.

The new Kozienice unit, with capacity of approximately 1000 MW, is one of the biggest investments undertaken in the Polish power industry.  Like other units already in operation at the plant, the new unit will be fired with bituminous coal. The estimated cost of the investment is about PLN 5.5 billion.

To build the new unit, the SPV Kozienice II was initially established, which was recently merged with Elektrownia Kozienice S.A.  This solution guarantees more favourable terms of financing for implementing the project, increases management effectiveness, and reduces the costs connected with preparing commercial contracts to secure purchases of fuels and materials to operate the new power unit, as a result of making use of the commercial relations and contracts held by Elektrownia Kozienice S.A.

The new unit is planned to be completed by 2016.
